Deionized water is a type of purified water in which mineral ions are removed. Normally, tap water contains trace ions that came from different sources like soil and pipelines. To clear impurities, water is exposed to electrically charged resins that attract and remove mineral salts. Deionization prevents scale buildup as majority of dissolved salts like sodium, calcium, iron, copper, and bromide are filtered. However, it does not remove uncharged organic molecules, viruses, or bacteria unless trapped by chance in the resin.
Several industrial, biological, and pharmaceutical applications also require a high level of water purity to avoid interference in different processes. For microbiology laboratories, deionized water is widely used as a medium. Water is cooked in an autoclave prior to use to kill remaining viruses and bacteria. For automotives, it is used to top up lead acid batteries of cars and trucks to avoid shortening batteries’ lifespan. For domestic cleaning, it is the preferred medium in steam ironing to avoid leaving any mineral residue on clothes. For many pharmaceutical and cosmetic productions, it is an important additive for its low chemical reactivity. Other uses for deionized water include the following:
* Automotive cooling systems
* Carwash and house cleaner
* Fresh water and marine aquariums
* Water-fog fire extinguishing systems for sensitive environments
* High voltage dielectric for pulsed power applications
Deionized water can now be purchased through ChemWorld in different pack sizes. To ensure high quality, water samples are tested by independent firms on a regular basis. Product is in stock and ready to be shipped within the day.
Same day shipping on all containers and drums if ordered by 3pm EST.
